BEGRIMS is a labor of love, where garments are brought to life through a blend of modern romantic design and ancestral spirit. Danae’s personal journey is intimately woven into the brand’s identity, as she pays homage to her Greek roots and the cultural legacy she carries forward.
Central to BEGRIMS is collaboration with local artisans across Greece, especially women, whose hands preserve fading textile techniques. In particular, Danae works in close partnership with a women-led artisanal studio on Naxos Island, that has been weaving tradition into textiles since 1989. There, on traditional handlooms known as ‘krevataria’, each weave carries the spirit of the past and the heart of the maker.
BEGRIMS stands as a celebration of cultural memory, female artistry, and the enduring connection between people and place. It is a brand rooted in authenticity, ritual, and a deep respect for the past—designed to speak to the present and future.
THE FOUNDER
Danae Grimopoulou is a Greek fashion designer who divides her time between Greece and Southern France. Born and raised in Athens, she studied Fashion Design at Polimoda in Florence and honed her craft working with emerging brands throughout Europe, the UK, and Africa.
Her deep passion for textiles and craftsmanship is shaped by a rich, multicultural family history. Her grandfather once ran a shop specializing in athletic wear and fabric trade in Bouaké, Ivory Coast, where her mother spent her early years immersed in nature and the rhythms of everyday life. These stories sparked Danae’s early sensitivity to material, texture, and the spirit of place. On her father’s side, the simplicity of Athenian life and her grandmother’s delicate hemstitching introduced her to the quiet poetry of tradition and handmade craft — shaping the foundation of her contemporary romantic aesthetic.
In 2024, she relaunched BEGRIMS with her debut collection — a soulful tribute to her roots and to Greece’s fading textile traditions. Through intentional design and close collaboration with local artisans, Danae breathes new life into age-old techniques. Her philosophy is grounded in slow fashion, emotional storytelling, and a devotion to craft — creating pieces that carry history forward with quiet elegance and care.
